About the course

Also known as 'Recognised Prior Learning' - this course is for working cycle instructors who haven’t completed the 1st4Sport Level 2 Award in Instructing Cycle Training, and want to continue delivering Bikeability after 31st March 2024.

Pathway to qualification

This course enables cycle instructors to update their skills and knowledge in line with the Level 2 Award in Instructing Cycle Training. Our expert tutors will:

  • Support you to complete a pre-course questionnaire.
  • Assess your current skills based on your answers.
  • Guide you through a one-day workshop.
  • Observe and assess you delivering Bikeability training.

If you're successful, you’ll achieve your 1st4sport Level 2 Award in Instructing Cycle Training.

Who can do this training?

Any National Standard Cycling Instructor, either provisional (NSIP) or fully qualified (NSIQ), who does not currently hold the 1st4Sport Level 2 qualification. To take this course, you must:  

  • Be at least 16 years old.
  • Have proof of identification.
  • Communicate effectively in English (listening, speaking, reading and writing).
  • Be actively delivering Bikeability training.
  • Provide your existing NSIP or NSIQ number.  

Pricing structure

The Bikeability Trust has provided a bursary of £200 to contribute to the cost of the conversion qualification. For most people, the final upfront cost will be £88. Tutor travel for the practical observation costs extra.

The course can be booked with or without the Post Course Observation. There is a further charge for this. Please contact us for the pricing structure.

The course is taught in Bristol. We can travel to some locations, depending on how far you are from Bristol and how many learners you have. Contact us to find out more. 

How is this course accredited?

Our tutors teach to the official standards set by the Department for Transport. This course was developed by the Bikeability Trust and is accredited by 1st4Sport, the awarding body.
